Some previous knowledge of yoga is good but not essential. Adjust to your body's need and wishes. Never strain or push when doing yoga, be gentle and use props if needed. If you feel a strain when raching down towards the floor, use books or blocks to get the "floor" closer to you. Bend the knees when you feel a strain in the back-leg. A common preference is to sit on books and bolster when doing Yogic Squat. Listen to what your body tells you.
